    Description

Hello, you are bidding on 6 rare Civil War Canister Shots (also known as a grape shot or solid shots).  These have a diameter of 5/8" all the way up to 2".  This is a good representation of 6 of the various sizes that were used in this area during the Civil War.  The smaller Canister shots were placed in an Artillery Shell (round and spherical) and packed in using pitch and sulphur...  In the middle of the shell would be the black powder bursting charge that would explode sending the canister shot flying in all directions.  The larger Iron Shots were stacked in a canister and fired in hopes of obtaining a spread out debris of iron much like a shot gun blast.  These are getting tougher to come by.  These were all dug just North of Atlanta in the Kennesaw Mountain area out of Union Positions, these were most likely from Confederate shells that blasted the Union lines in their attempt to halt the Union advance up the mountain.  You will receive 1 of the sets that I have available.
